The psychological battle of lies, trust, and survival is heading to television. Shinobu Kaitani’s cult-classic manga Liar Game will finally be adapted into a TV anime series in 2026, produced by none other than Madhouse, the renowned studio behind Death Note and One Outs. For fans of mind games and high-stakes drama, this adaptation has been years in the making.

Story Synopsis

Liar Game, serialized from 2005 to 2015 in Weekly Young Jump, follows Nao Kanzaki, a naive young woman who is tricked into participating in the mysterious “Liar Game.” Contestants are given large sums of money and pitted against one another, with the goal of deceiving others and protecting their own funds. Those who lose fall into crushing debt, while the winners advance to even more dangerous rounds.

Nao’s path crosses with Shinichi Akiyama, a former psychology student and master manipulator recently released from prison. Together, the unlikely duo battles through escalating games of betrayal and strategy. Their journey explores morality, greed, and human nature—all under the watchful eyes of the game’s shadowy organizers.
