Fans of The Dangers in My Heart (Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu) have something exciting to look forward to this summer. A brand-new spinoff titled Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu Love Comedy ga Hajimaranai (The Dangers in My Heart: A Romantic Comedy Will Not Start) is set to debut on July 22. This new series will shift the spotlight onto Kyōtarō Ichikawa’s older sister, Kana, promising fresh perspectives and new comedic moments in the beloved world of the original manga.

Story Synopsis

On June 7, the official X (formerly Twitter) account for The Dangers in My Heart announced that the spinoff series will launch on Akita Shoten’s Champion Cross manga website.
Haika Nanasaka will illustrate the series under the full supervision of original creator Norio Sakurai. Fans can expect the same heartwarming humor and slice-of-life charm, this time centered on Kana Ichikawa, whose daily life and inner thoughts will take center stage.

Initially launched in March 2018, The Dangers in My Heart follows Kyōtarō Ichikawa, a socially awkward high school boy with a dark imagination, who secretly admires the popular Anna Yamada. Despite his grim fantasies, Kyōtarō’s interactions with Anna reveal both characters’ hidden quirks and vulnerabilities, gradually blossoming into a sweet and genuine connection.

This upcoming spinoff marks another expansion of the franchise, which already boasts a successful anime adaptation, light novel, and prior spinoff (Twi-Yaba). With the focus shifting to Kana, the series opens the door for new comedic and heartfelt stories within the same world.

Franchise Background

Sakurai’s original manga began serialization in Weekly Shōnen Champion before moving to Akita Shoten’s web platforms. The manga’s 12th compiled volume was recently released in Japan, while Seven Seas Entertainment continues to publish the English editions, with Volume 11 scheduled for August 5.

Beyond the manga, the series inspired a popular anime adaptation that premiered in 2023 on TV Asahi’s “NUMAnimation” programming block. The show quickly garnered an international audience via HIDIVE, which streams both the subbed and dubbed versions. A second season aired in early 2024, followed by an anime adaptation of the Twi-Yaba spinoff.

Additionally, an upcoming compilation film — featuring new scenes and post-series content — is in production, promising more of Kyōtarō and Anna’s story.

Character Summaries

Kyōtarō Ichikawa

A socially awkward and imaginative high school student, Kyōtarō views himself as an outsider and often fantasizes about dark scenarios. However, beneath his gloomy façade lies a kind and perceptive individual. His unlikely friendship — and budding romance — with the popular Anna Yamada drives much of the original manga’s emotional core.

Kana Ichikawa

Kyōtarō’s older sister, Kana, has largely remained a background character in the main series, known for her sharp wit and casual demeanor. The new spinoff offers fans a chance to explore Kana’s personal life, relationships, and inner world, making her a lead character for the first time.

With Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu Love Comedy ga Hajimaranai launching on July 22, anticipation is high among fans eager to explore Kana’s story. Whether you’re a long-time reader or new to the series, this spinoff promises to deliver laughs, heart, and fresh insights into the beloved world of The Dangers in My Heart.
